News & Updates!

Did you know I have a ton of videos I’ve produced over the years? Well, I’ve finally created a home for them as well as a few of my courses. Some of them were formerly on Skillshare and my Creative Daily Patreon site. But don’t let that fool you, they are all home now. I’ve created a linked site to my website called getcuriousgetcreative.com and that is where they all live now. Have a look around.

If you find any glitches, be sure to let me know. Enjoy!

I still have more to upload, if you are interested in knowing when the newest ones are available be sure to sign up for the newsletter updates from the site.

Spring In The Northwoods has shipped! You should be able to find it in your local quilt shop or online. Click the image below for a better look!

Also in News! My collection titled Still Life with P&B is now being shown to shop owners, so if you like it let your local shop know. Sales reps can’t show everyone everything, so they might not see it.

If you haven’t seen Alex Andersons post yet. I’m still reeling . . . You can watch the whole show or start at 5:44.

I couldn’t be more honored by her offer to be on The Quilt Show. Sounds like we will be filming mid-August, 2024.

Well that’s it for now. Take care my friends!

Latest Quilt "Ennobled" was 'live' with Alex Anderson!

You may or may not know, I have a love/hate relationship with social media. Today, it was all LOVE, as Alex Anderson from The Quilt Show (Simply Quilts) found my “Ennobled” quilt on Facebook and shared it on her ‘live’ broadcast on both FB and YouTube.

She got a couple of the facts wrong, the face is not appliqued, it’s pieced. And the size thing, (it’s 34” x 64”) but who cares!

Here’s the link to the show. 4:40 to jump to the segment.

I have added a new section to my website that features this and other artful quilts that I have been working on since Jan 2024. Here’s the direct link.

Quilt Patterns Released!

Phew! Happy to say I made the shipping deadline and all five patterns are on their way to distributors! You should see them showing up in your local quilt shops any day now. Of course, the fabrics should arrive around the same time. That’s the goal anyway!!!

If you are interested and can’t find the patterns or fabrics, simply ask your shop owner to order it for you. If that’s not an option there are lots of online shops carrying everything.

Next, I need to focus on bookkeeping and getting ready for my tax accountant. It’s that time of year you know!

See the light - Woven Nines Quilt Pattern

I was so delighted to hear from Jessica Boose. She was one of the pattern testers for the Woven Nines Quilt Pattern.

First, here is what she had to say about the pattern itself.

I Iove everything about this pattern! It’s easy to follow and so simple but the results are outstanding! You can chose to make this pattern traditional or go modern and it looks great both ways! It’s also the perfect scrap buster if you like scrappy quilts! -Jessica Boose

And second, I was touched when she agreed to share the rest of the quilt’s story!

When my grandmother passed a few years ago I inherited her craft room. I’ve spent the last few years using her fabrics, saving the most special ones waiting for the perfect quilt! When I saw your pattern I knew it would be the perfect pattern to use the fabrics as the pattern feels traditional/timeless/heirloom.. which is exactly what I wanted my quilt to look like! Some of the fabrics were from clothes of hers or clothes she had made. Some of the fabrics were folded neatly in her craft room with a post-it note (she did that for her ‘favourite’ things!). The background (the white) was from a sheet of hers. -Jessica Boose

Thank you Jesse for testing and sharing your lovely results with all of us! XO

Quilting and photo credits go to @modmooi (Instagram) She did an amazing job quilting this! Bravo.

Sewing the Dreaded Y-Seam!

It seems there are many quilters out there who are terrified of the Y-seam.

I’d like to ease your mind . . . so I made this video. I hope it helps lessen your fears.

There are other ways to sew these as well. If you google it you will find lots of videos with other tricks.

Posie Rows English Paper Pieced Throw Quilt

Today I crossed the finish line for my EPP hexagon throw quilt! I thought I’d share my final stitches and a few tips with you.

  • Fabrics are from my Origins collection by P&B Textiles.

  • Hexagons are 7/8".

  • Quilt Size: approx 44” x 60

Posie Rows Throw Quilt Size: approx 44” x 60” using 7/8” hexagons

I do not sell a pattern for this quilt at this time. If you’d like to make it I have a BALL PARK ESTIMATE for yardage below.

Scrap Tape Experiment

I saw this product (Scrap Tape by The Gypsy Quilter) and thought it was genius. I really hate wasting . . . well anything . . . fabric, paint, food. So, I thought I’d give these a go for my quilt fabric scraps. I used the 2 1/2” width size and stitched my scraps to it creating a border for this test block. Test block is from my Origins Homestead pattern (below)

I wanted to enlarge the block to use as a pillow cover.

(Not a paid endorsement) Just sharing my experience.

Pros, Cons, and a tip

Pros - Easy to use. It’s not bulky. It’s water soluble, so it washes away.

Cons - It says you can iron on the fabric side using a hot iron, but when I did it lightly stuck to my ironing surface and it also shrunk. I switched to finger pressing and that solved the issue.

Tip - I put the spool of Scrap Tape on my extra cone thread holder and just kept adding the scraps unrolling as I went. I did about three yards in my first try.

Origins Homestead Quilt - Videos & Updates

NEW ADDITIONAL UPDATE! It seems a small batch of patterns went out and the templates did not print at the correct size. PLEASE measure your templates BEFORE you cut. If you received one of those patterns you can scan it and adjust or print the updated templates below. You’ll still need to measure to check the size, if you download and print them.

Download updated templates

We’ve updated the pattern and filmed a few videos for the Homestead Quilt.. If you’ve purchased this pattern and the back cover says it includes the update, (see below) you are ready to go. If it doesn’t say this simply download the pdf update for your version here.

Check out the video tutorials for each of the blocks!

New Home for My Fabric Stash

I’ve been paring down my stash for years. These are the fabrics of other designers along with a few UFOs and some of my hand-dyed and hand-painted fabrics. It feels so good to finally have them out of the boxes and available to use!

In case you are wondering, the quilt on the ironing board is the Tula Nova EPP pattern sewn in my first collection from Andover, On the Breeze (way back), and a few solids. It’s hand-pieced and perhaps I’ll finally get it quilted this winter!?

Where do you keep your fabric stash? And do you have any storage tips? Tell us in the comments below.

If You Can’t Fix It, Feature It!!

My friend and former design colleague, Carey Portzline (see what she is up to at Thread & Whisk) used my Easy Zip Wallet pattern to create this lovely example. I’m sharing this for two reasons.

  1. I tend to use crazy fabrics that make your eyes go funny when I make mine. Carey chose a waxed linen for hers and I love how it turned out.

  2. She used an invisible zipper, rather than a regular zipper and had a bit of trouble getting the zipper started when the wallet was zipped closed. SO . . . she got creative and solved the problem with a pull tab. In her words, “I had to add the loop to make the invisible zipper able to start zipping. If you can’t fix it, feature it!!"

You gotta love a creative thinker!

Here’s what else she had to say . . .

This wallet pattern was so easy to follow, and really fun to make. I had no idea that I could make a cool wallet like this! Now that I’ve made one, I want to make another one. There are so many ways you could riff on this pattern, depending on the fabrics and zippers you choose. The added surprise for me: my big iPhone fits inside, so I can use it as a going out purse! In that case, I think I’ll swap out the pen and add my lip gloss. : )

Rock on,
Carey

Have you made one of these yet? I’d love to see it if you have.

Jamie

Origins Fabrics and Quilt Patterns are Launching!

Origins Fabric:

I just learned from P&B Textiles that the Origins fabric is in their warehouse, and it should start shipping to quilt shops very soon! If you are a shop owner and would still like to place an order they are accepting orders until the end of September. So call your rep!

Origins Patterns:

I’ve been shipping patterns to shops and distributors so you should start seeing them in your local quilt shop! You’ve probably seen most of the patterns here on the blog (when I was looking for pattern testers.) But I will list all five of them below.

If you see a pattern you like and your local shop doesn’t carry them, please ask them to order one for you. They can order wholesale through me or via the following distributors:

  • Checker Distributors

  • E.E. Schenck

If that doesn’t work you can order a pdf pattern via this website.

Thank you!

Happy Autumn! Happy Sewing!
